Following her critically-acclaimed performance in The White Lotus Season 3, Aimee Lou Wood has finally found her next major TV project.
Per Deadline, Wood has signed on for the leading role in the upcoming series adaptation of Jane Eyre, based on Charlotte Brontë’s classic coming-of-age novel of the same name. The Sex Education star will be playing the iconic titular character, who was previously played by Ruth Wilson in the 2006 BBC series and by Mia Wasikowska in Cary Fukunaga’s 2011 film adaptation.
What do we know about Aimee Lou Wood’s new TV show?
The new Jane Eyre TV adaptation is being penned by acclaimed writer Miriam Battye (Succession). It is being produced by Working Title, the company behind the new Sense and Sensibility movie starring Daisy Edgar-Jones. At the moment, the creative team is in talks with a UK network.
The 1847 novel is a gothic drama following the life of the titular heroine, “as she searches for love, independence, and social equality in 19th-century England.” The story explores the moral and emotional development of Jane, and touches on “topics of class, sexuality, religion, and feminism.”
For her breakout performance in The White Lotus Season 3, Wood has earned Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actress. Besides the HBO show, she also recently appeared in the Netflix miniseries Toxic Town and in the British comedy series Film Club, which she also co-created with Ralph Davis. Wood will next be seen in Sam Mendes’ four-part Beatles biopic and in the comedy movie Anxious People with Angelina Jolie.
